Book Moon-Crossed Wolves Trilogy Review :

As always, Ms. Easterling has produced a series of fun, suspenseful shifter novels with exciting plots. This story has a bit of a Romeo and Juliet vibe, depicting the impulsive romance between two characters from different cultures, only with a lower death count and much happier conclusion.I enjoyed being introduced to a new mythological creature, the woelfin (human/wolf shifters who depend on a removable pelt, somewhat like a selkie’s). It took me a little while to understand this new mythology, but it kept the story interesting. I loved seeing the contrasts between woelfin families and werewolf packs. I loved learning more about woelfin abilities and werewolf pack bonds.I liked both of the main characters as well as many of the secondary characters. Although I wasn’t initially crazy about our main character, Honor, she did grow on me as the story progressed. I was quite interested in Honor’s twin and her cousins, and I was pleased that we continue getting to know them. And I immediately fell in love with Luke, but then I was already in love with him from reading his origin in the short story, Thirteenth Werewolf. This fast-paced, madcap adventure held my interest from beginning to end and kept me guessing. It offers lots of action, mystery, surprises, romance, and a few laughs. It’s the kind of story that’s hard to put down, because you just can’t wait to understand what’s happening now and what might happen next. It ends on a satisfying note, with Luke’s pack heading in an interesting new direction that made me feel like cheering. This book contains some violence, minimal swearing, and sexual suggestiveness but no explicit sexual content. If you enjoy this trilogy, I highly recommend checking out Thirteenth Werewolf and Other Stories, which includes Luke’s wonderful prequel story. The author provided me with advanced reader copies of each novel, which I volunteered to review.
I read and reviewed all three books in this boxed set as ARCs, but they are books I would have bought on my own anyway since I enjoy this author’s works, so my opinions are all mine. Below are the original reviews of each book.- Moon Stalked is the story of Honor, a woelfin, which is a shifter who can only shift if they wear their own unique wolf pelt. Honor and her family members are trying to recover her cousin's wolfsfell (pelt) in order to save his life. Honor carries a lot of baggage about her family's lost pelts, blaming herself for not protecting the pelts over a decade ago when she was a teenager. Her quest to find the pelt leads her to a house where she is trying to figure out how to break in and search for the wolfsfell. Her first recovery attempt is interrupted by Luke, who is a werewolf and is initially unaware that Honor is not a werewolf like him. She's been led to believe that werewolves are the enemy, so she's unwilling to explain what she needs or ask him for help, despite the fact that he's clearly willing to help.I really liked this new-to-me twist on wolf shifters and I liked Honor, but I disagreed with her decisions not to fill Luke in on her family's situation. I really liked Luke since he is nothing but kind and noble to her and her family. I was unhappy with her sister Grace's attitude towards Honor and it'll be interesting to see how both relationships (Honor/Luke and Honor/Grace) progress in the next book. I was happy with where Honor landed at the end of the book, but didn't make the connection to the Thirteenth Werewolf novella until I read the author's note at the end of the book. It's not necessary to have read the novella, but it was a nice a-hah moment once I made the realization. I liked the book so much that I read it in less than a day and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.- Alpha's Hunt is the second book in the Moon-Crossed Wolves series. The book begins in a somewhat startling fashion when Honor meets her second werewolf while out in the forest with Luke. Luke's actions are unexpected and seem uncharacteristically aggressive, but make sense when explained. Luke is called back to his father's pack and he understandably feels obligated to do what's best for his family. He still cares strongly for Honor, but wants to keep her safe and initially goes about it in the worst way--by sending her away. Honor ends up back with the entire, dysfunctional pack of werewolves and struggles to keep her own secrets while trying to do what she thinks will best help Luke. She's also still struggling with the decisions her twin sister made at the end of the prior book, so Honor's got a lot of her plate.I really enjoyed the book and didn't suspect the person who turned out to be sowing the seeds of dysfunction within the pack. Honor holds true to her name and makes the tough decisions, despite the personal consequences. No spoilers, but I really liked what happened at the very end of the book and am excited to see how it plays out in the next. I really like this series, it's a must read for me!- Stray Shifter is the third book in the Moon-Crossed Shifters series and it ties up Luke and Honor's story nicely. It begins with the Acosta pack still adjusting to the change in leadership from Luke to Ruth. Luke is trying to step down and hand over the reins, but everyone is having trouble adjusting. Then, when the pack is attacked by stray shifters, Luke steps up to lead and further blurs the line delineating Ruth as the alpha. Ruth has her hands full dealing with inter and intra pack dynamics, her pregnancy and learning how to accept Justice into her life. This is the worst time for the pack to be attacked by both lone wolves and a neighboring pack in an attempt at expansion.I really liked how things worked out in the book, with both couples learning how to give and take with their mate. I also liked how they were able to capitalize on both skinless and woelfin strengths, to the betterment of the pack. I believe this is the last book in this series and I'm sad to see it end, but I'm very happy with how it worked out for Luke and Honor. I enjoyed this series and definitely recommend it.
